Can anyone recommend any good books to read when trying to gain a good understanding and learn fundamentals of HVAC system controls? Im a mechanical engineer, who wants to develop knowledge of the balancing and control of HVAC systems. I was recommended Geoff Levermore's "Building Energy Management Systems" but wanted to get any feedback from previous readers before committing to buying. Many thanks

You should consider the ECA controls courses as well. I did them when they first started some 7 years ago and they gave me great insight into BMS controls, and you get ome great reference literature that I still use today.

Thanks for the info. I enquired about those courses, but they are pretty expensive. In the current economic climate, my company training budget is tight and I would have to fork out the cost myself. Which is why I wanted to try learn the subject through books.

There are several technical papers dealing with HVAC controls like BSRIA AG07.1998 Part 0 to 6, BSRIA AG09.2001, BSRIA TN6.98 or CIBSE Guide H.

The best way to learn is by hands-on, i.e. on-site witnessing systems commissioning. I am a mechanical engineer too, but I picked-up lots of controls knowledge from stints on-site.
